Humvees in Styria

Between August 15 and August 17, 1997, our local off-road club called "Grazer Geländewagen Club" organized the 1st Camp Styria. This Camp was a meeting of all owners of military vehicles. About 50 vehicles took part at this Camp. There were a lot of Jeep MB, Dodge WC-Series and a few M-Series, GMC-Trucks of WW2, a Diamond T Wrecker, a few German Nato Vehicles and two of the most interesting vehicles named HMMWV.

The Camp Styria took place in a village called Klein-Stübing. This is about 10 miles in the north of Graz, the capital of Styria. The camp was organized like a military camp with tents, field kitchen etc. Heavy off-road trails were not possible because in Austria because it is forbidden by law to drive with vehicles off the roads.

These Humvees are owned by the Italian delegation who also came with a M151 Mutt, a Dodge and a Dodge 6x6. But the two Hummers were absolutely great. I took the opportunity to ride in a Hummer (as front passenger). It was absolutely great.

The Humvees were a Cargo/Troop Carrier (with soft top) and a TOW-Missile Carrier (basic armor). They were new and in original condition. But take a look at the rear lights, they are different from the military model!!! I asked the owner and they told me that they bought the vehicles in the United States so as they now look like. They have nothing changed on their Hummers. Unfortunately I didnt't have any further information of these Hummers (where bought etc.).

I think next year I will meet these Hummer owners again and perhaps I will get more information about these HMMWV's.
